Dr John Langford-Smith
Dr John Langford-Smith has worked as an Ophthalmologist at Eye Care Queensland for the last 2 years and in rural Queensland and NSW for over 22 years. He is a general Ophthalmic surgeon with extensive experience in elective Ophthalmic procedures including cataract surgery, pterygia, plastics (including blepharoplasty, lid tightening procedures and tumour excision), MIGS stents and surgery for glaucoma. He has extensive experience in treating wet macular degeneration by injection and an interest in glaucoma management.
He has an exemplary academic background with 20 years of tertiary study. In science, he achieved first class honours in Biochemistry at Sydney University, worked as an Immuno-chemist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney and completed Medicine at Sydney University. He finished a Masters research degree at Sydney Eye Hospital and specialised in Clinical Ophthalmology, completing his training in 2000.
As one of the few Ophthalmologists in Australia with formal scientific research training, John has a keen interest in innovative treatments and the Science of Ophthalmology. Dr Langford-Smith also has interests in macular degeneration and is looking to the synthesis of potential nutritional and immune treatments for this disorder.
